Profile

Founder and president of Okada Earthscape. From the day Shimpei began building gardens in 1984, he’s had a deep appreciation for and dedication to horticulture. His journey began in Japan when worked as a delivery person for a local flower shop and then became an apprentice, completing his training in Ikebana in the art of Japanese flower arrangement.

After graduating from Tokyo University with a degree in agriculture, he came to Canada and first started working at a mushroom farm in Alberta. Although he enjoyed his time there, his island-born spirit instinctively told him to live closer to the ocean. He followed his heart and decided to move to Surrey, BC where he began his business in landscape horticulture.

Shimpei is passionately devoted to creating beautiful landscapes using his years of knowledge, expertise, and horticultural skills. He has won numerous awards as a garden designer, and has also served as President of the Vancouver Japanese Gardeners Association for over 35 years.
